Welcome to my 5.0 Ranger Page!
Hello and welcome to my website. This page is dedicated to my current truck, my 1986 Ford Ranger sporting a Cobra 5.0.
Heres the story, I am a 17 year old senior at Wakins Memoral High School in Pataskala Ohio. My father owns a shop whare he has been working on cars for many years now, as a hobby he has been drag racing for even longer. At the moment he owns a high 8/low 9 second T-Bird. so when it came time for me to get somthing to drive you know that I wanted somthing fast, so what did a get? well I got a 1987 ranger with a 2.3 littre, I blew it up after a few months and I have been banging through trucks ever since.
Well over a year ago I decided that I wanted a V8 Ranger, it sounded fast and above all it sounded unique. so I started working on him for us to build one, I mean how hard could it be? Well I guess to hard, he DID'T want to do it for anything in the world! Finaly I came to the point whare I broke him down, about march he finaly said that we could build one. So I did some searching and found a body and motor/tranny that would could use for the swap. the big thing was that I wanted an extended cab and a 89+ truck.
So a few days before we went to set every thing in motion, we seen an add in the paper that simply said "86 5.0 Ranger for sale.". Well I knew right away that this is not what I wanted, it was to old and it was a normal cab. Well my dad called anyway, come to find out it was an extended cab. Yet it was to old, I wanted no part of it.
Well as I had done to him, he did back to me and broke me down. We went to look at this thing. When we got there I couldnt believe what I was seeing! This 1986 Ranger looked like new! and to top it off it had a Cobra motor with less then 5,000 miles on it! so I changed my mind real quick about this truck, I knew then that I had to have it. So the next day (Easter) the truck became mine after a few thousnd bucks and a few old car parts in trade.
The one thing about the truck that we didnt care for was the fact that it was a 5 speed with the stock 7.5 inch ranger rear in it. So rather then change the rear we decided to put us a new tranny in it. The smart choice was an C-4, they are cheap, small, and easy to find. So in other words we decided to go with an AOD just to make things hard on us. I had less then 20 miles on the truck before we started to tear into that thing. Talking about a nightmare, it ended up being a bigger job then we had even thought possable. It took us months to get it going again! It wasnt until after the middle of July till I got back behind the wheel of that thing.
Since then I have done lots of stuff to the truck, but mostly cleaning. I did install my own Radio System in it, and put on and took off some decals.
The first time I got to take it out to the track was on Saturday September the 2nd. It looks as if this truck will run in the high 14's low 15's on a good day. The best part of the weekend was when I did a 1/4 mile burnout in the truck! I know I know.I had no idea that I was doing it becuse I was so focused on the track, but it sure looked good becuse the other guy red lighted on me!
